Endoscopic sphincterotomy

74.1 Endoscopic sphincterotomy. After deep cannulation of the bile duct the sphincterotome the position of the instrument is stabilized by a guidewire placed in the bile duct. The sphincterotome is then retracted and the sphincter muscle is cut by short bursts of current. Possible complications of spincterotomy are pancreatitis, perforation or bleeding.
