Virtual colonoscopy. Conventional volume-rendered view of the lumen and view in computer-aided diagnosis mode
136.1 This movie clip shows a fly through of a virtual colonoscopy examination for an 80-year-old female who has multiple polyps. The clip starts in the middle of the transverse colon and proceeds to the cecum. The first half of the clip shows a conventional volume-rendered view of the lumen where the colonic structures are colored with a single color. You can see a polyp of size 12 mm on a fold in the middle of the transverse colon. Then the view changes to a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) mode where the regions corresponding to the polyp are detected by a computer. Here, polyps, folds, and colonic wall are colored by green, pink, and brown, respectively, based on the shape analysis performed by CAD. As you can see, multiple polyps ranging from 10 to 12 mm at the end of the transverse colon and at the hepatic flexure are detected by CAD and highlighted with green. At the end of the movie, you can see a large circumferential mass of 5 cm at the cecum, a part of which is marked by the CAD as a lesion.
